Razenberg Engineering

Embedded electronics, from idea to working hardware.

I am Frank Razenberg, an electronics engineer in Beuningen, the Netherlands. Through my one-person company I take on embedded work for clients: firmware, FPGA logic, reverse engineering and PCB design. Small jobs are welcome, and so are projects that run for months.

Services

Firmware

Bare-metal and RTOS firmware for 8-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers. Drivers, bootloaders, communication stacks, low-power designs and the bring-up of new boards. I also take over existing code that needs fixing or finishing.

FPGA digital design

Digital logic in VHDL or Verilog: high-speed interfaces, signal processing, custom peripherals and soft-core integration. Simulation and timing closure are part of the job, and so is on-chip debugging when the simulation and the hardware disagree.

Reverse engineering

Analysis of existing hardware and firmware: protocol decoding, firmware extraction and disassembly, schematic recovery from boards, and interoperability with undocumented devices. For repair, migration and security assessment of products you own or are licensed to work on.

PCB design

Schematic capture and layout, from a few square centimetres to multi-layer boards with fine-pitch parts. Component selection with availability in mind, design for manufacturing, and prototype assembly and test in my own lab.

How I work

Most of my work is done under NDA, so there is no public portfolio. I can describe past projects in general terms and give references on request. Work is billed by the hour, or on a fixed quote for well-defined jobs. A short call first is the quickest way to find out whether I am the right fit.
